Views on the teaching of geography. Methodological procedure and results of the CPV video study of Geography.

Abstract:

V disertační práci jsou prezentovány výsledky výzkumu výuky zeměpisu na druhém stupni základní školy a v nižším ročníku gymnázia, a to na školách v Brně a blízkém okolí. Výzkum je založen na analýze videozáznamů, které se orientují na zkoumání předpokladů pro účinné vyučování a učení na základě průběhu výuky. V úvodu disertační práce je vysvětlena hlavní motivace a jsou vytýčeny cíle výzkumu výuky zeměpisu. Teoretická východiska, specifikace pojmů a stav poznání tvoří obsah dalších následujících kapitol. Čtvrtá kapitola obsahuje nástin jednotlivých kroků z hlediska metodického postupu. Základem postupu se stala analýza videozáznamů výuky. V dílčích výzkumných sondách se pak uplatnila celá řada různých výzkumných postupů, metod, technik a nástrojů, především pak kategoriálních pozorovacích systémů. Hlavním cílem bylo sledování především časové dimenze výuky zeměpisu z hlediska organizačních forem a výukových fází, což odpovídá celkovému konceptu a teoretickému východisku pojetí vyučování jako vytváření příležitosti k učení. Ve výzkumné části disertační práce jsou prezentovány výsledky analýz týkajících se organizačních forem výuky zeměpisu a jejich orientace, dále seznamuje s analýzami didaktické kategorie fáze výuky a jejich vztahu k organizačním formám. Pozornost byla zaměřena na uplatnění didaktických médií a prostředků se zvláštním zřetelem k učebnicím a mapám. Z hlediska kvalitativně-kvantitativního šetření byly formou případové studie analyzovány hlavní výukové metody jednotlivých učitelů a jejich vliv na formování vyučovacích stylů.

Abstract:

The dissertation presents the results of research into the teaching of geography at the second level of primary schools and the lower years of grammar schools in Brno and the surrounding area. The research is based on analysis of video recordings that concentrate on investigating the necessary preconditions for effective teaching and learning on the basis of the process of instruction.The principal motivation is explained and the goals of the research into the teaching of geography defined in the introduction to the dissertation. Chapter four contains an outline of individual steps from the viewpoint of methodological procedure. The basic procedure was analysis of video recordings of classes. A large number of various research procedures, methods, techniques and tools were applied in individual research studies, particularly categorial observation systems.The principal aim was to monitor in particular the temporal dimension to the teaching of geography from the viewpoint of organisational forms and phases of instruction, which corresponds to the overall concept and theoretical point of departure of the conception of teaching as the creation of an opportunity for learning. The research section of the dissertation presents the results of analyses relating to organisational forms of geography teaching and their orientation, and provides information on analyses of the didactic category of the teaching phase and their relationship with organisational forms. Attention was devoted to the application of didactical media and means, with a particular emphasis on textbooks and maps. From the viewpoint of qualitative / quantitative investigation the principal teaching methods used by individual teachers and their shaping of teaching styles were analysed in the form of a case study.
