An integrated checklist for designing critical software systems

Abstract:

Na softwarových systémech kritických infrastruktur závisí mnoho životů a peněz, proto je jejich bezpečnost a spolehlivost prvořadá. Vzhledem k rostoucí složitosti a rizikům spojeným s kritickými infrastrukturami se může stát, že se zkušení architekti při návrhu systému zaměří na nové a složité problémy a zanedbají nejzákladnější bezpečnostní návyky. Tím můžou zbytečně způsobit slabá místa v systému. V této práci jsme shromáždili stávající normy a doporučení a vytvořili checklist, který architektům připomene základní prvky bezpečnosti a spolehlivosti. Checklist sleduje softwarové incidenty od jejich prevence až po následnou analýzu a nabízí architektovi rady, jak systém na jednotlivé fáze incidentu připravit.

Abstract:

Many lives and money rely on critical software systems. Therefore their security and reliability are paramount. Due to increasing complexity and risks connected to critical infrastructures, experienced architects might focus on new and complex problems during the design of a system and neglect the most basic habits. This can unnecessarily cause vulnerabilities within the system. In this thesis, we collected existing standards and recommendations and created an integrated checklist to help architects consider general security and reliability essentials. The checklist follows an incident from its prevention to its subsequent analysis and offers guidelines to prepare the system for each incident phase.
