Militant democracy in Slovakia?

Abstract:

Political extremism is not only a different way how to build society. And it is definitely not a different way how to manage the public affairs. Political extremism has developed to a dangerous movement which has mobilized the enemies of democracy to achieve one goal. And that goal is a substitution of rule of law and individual rights. In this situation, democracies try to defend their own values. The object of the thesis is description of counter-extremism policy and classification of defense of the liberal democracy in Slovakia. This is analyzed within the framework of theory of extremism and the concept of militant democracy. Thesis contains first two theoretical parts defining the key terms of theory of extremism and the most important extremist actors in the country. Then, the development of the concept of militant democracy is examined. Finally, the sequence of case-studies concentrated on defending the democracy in Slovakia is presented.

Abstract:

Politický extrémizmus nie je iba odlišnou cestou, ako budovať spoločnosť. A určite nie je odlišnou cestou, ako spravovať veci verejné. Politciký extrémizmus sa vyvinul do podoby širokého hnutia, ktorému sa darí mobilizovať nepriateľov demokracie k dosiahnutiu jediného cieľa - ktorým je nahradenie vlády práva a individuálnych slobôd. V tejto situácii sa demokracie snažia svoje základné hodnoty ubrániť. Cieľom tejto práce je popis protiextrémistickej politiky a klasifikácia spôsobu ochrany liberálnej demokracie na Slovensku. K tomuto účelu využíva poznatky teórie extrémizmu a koncept militantnej demokracie. Pozostáva z dvoch úvodných teoretických častí definujúcich základné pojmy teórie extrémizmu a najdôležitejších extrémistických aktérov v krajine. Ďalej skúma vývoj konceptu militantnej demokracie a neskôr ho aplikuje v rámci série prípadových štúdií, ktoré predstavujú ochranu demokracie na Slovensku.
