Polish-Slovak Cultural Cooperation with a Focus on Border Regions

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to present Polish-Slovak cultural cooperation in border regions . The first chapter focuses on the history of the Polish-Slovak border with the focus on the problematic period in the common history the battle of Spis and Orava. Also it is trying to bring mutual stereotypes that impede cultural cooperation . The second chapter of the thesis is already devoted to concrete cooperation – which is developed in the various cultural institutions, international organizations , euroregions and sister cities . The third chapter highlights the missing transport connection of the Polish-Slovak border, which significantly obstructs conditions of cultural tourism. This part can be a theme for the future how to improve and enhance cross-border cooperation in this area, which is especially important today, when both countries belong to the European Union. The thesis tries to find also a comparison with the Czech-Polish cooperation in the field of culture, focusing on the areas of the Czech-Polish border.

Abstract:

Cieľom tejto práce je predstaviť poľsko-slovenskú spoluprácu v oblasti kultúry v prihraničných regiónoch. Prvá kapitola sa zameriava na históriu na slovensko-poľskom pohraničí so sústredením sa na problematické obdobie v spoločnej histórii - boj o Spiš a Oravu. Snaží sa priblížiť takisto vzájomné stereotypy, ktoré prekážajú v kultúrnej spolupráci. Druhá kapitola práce sa venuje už konkrétnej spolupráci – tú rozvíjajú rôzne kultúrne inštitúcie, medzinárodné organizácie, euroregióny a partnerské mestá. Tretia kapitola poukazuje na chýbajúce dopravné prepojenie poľsko-slovenského pohraničia, ktoré výrazne zhoršuje podmienky kultúrnej turistiky. Táto časť môže byť námetom do budúcnosti ako zlepšovať a zdokonaľovať cezhraničnú spoluprácu na tomto území, čo je dôležité najmä dnes, keď sú obidva štáty súčasťou Európskej únie. Práca sa snaží nájsť aj komparáciu s česko-poľskou spoluprácou v oblasti kultúry so zameraním na oblasti česko-poľských hraníc.
