Evidence of herbivorous interactions in the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá studiem fosilních stop z české křídové pánve a je strukturována do dvou hlavních částí. V teoretické části nejprve vymezuji geologickou charakteristiku zájmového území a představuji různé klasifikační přístupy determinace ichnofosilií. Také interpretuji koncept funkčně potravních skupin a pojednávám flóru z období cenomanu. V praktické části předkládám soupis a fotografickou dokumentaci herbivorních interakcí, zjištěných ve Fričově sbírce, která je uložena ve depozitáři Národního muzea, a která nikdy nebyla uceleně zpracována. Dále uvádím vlastní determinaci vzorků, dle zvoleného přístupu klasifikace a navrhuji hypotézy o možných původcích herbivorních interakcí. V práci bylo zjištěno 21 herbivorních interakcí, náležících do funkčně potravních skupin: okrajový žír, miny a ovipozice. Byly předloženy návrhy možných původců řádů Hymenoptera, Diptera a Lepidoptera. Také byla provedena paleobotanická revize a byl nastíněn kontext paleoekosystémových vztahů hmyzu a rostlin.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on the study of fossil tracks from the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin and is structured into two main parts. In the theoretical section, I first define the geological characteristics of the area of interest and introduce various classification approaches for the determination of ichnofossils. I also interpret the concept of functional feeding groups and discuss the Cenomanian flora. In the practical part, I present a list and photographic documentation of herbivore interactions found in Frič's collection, stored in the repository of the National Museum, which has never been comprehensively processed. Furthermore, I provide my own determination of samples according to the chosen classification approach and propose hypotheses about possible origins of herbivore interactions. The study identified 21 herbivore interactions belonging to functional feeding groups: marginal feeding, mines, and oviposition. Proposals for possible culprits from the orders Hymenoptera, Diptera, and Lepidoptera were presented. Additionally, a paleobotanical revision was conducted, and the context of paleoecosystem relationships between insects and plants was outlined.
