The population of the Common Magpie (Pica pica) in the cities of the Moravian-Silesian Region

Abstract:

Straka obecná (Pica pica) je druh, který se vyskytuje na celém území ČR, hojnější je v nižších polohách. U druhu v posledních letech pozorujeme vysokou míru synantropizace - osídlování lidských sídel, zároveň však postrádáme relevantní výsledky hnízdní hustoty ve městech a vesnicích ČR. Tato práce se zabývá hnízdní hustotou a biotopovou preferencí straky obecné ve třech městech Moravskoslezského kraje - Nový Jičín, Kopřivnice a Příbor. Na počátku výzkumu byla zmapována všechna hnízda straky obecné ze tří sledovaných území. U hnízd jsou uvedeny souřadnice GPS. Dále byl zaznamenán stav a obsazení hnízda, jeho výška umístění a druh stromu. Při druhé kontrole, v období vyvádění mláďat, byla opět zjištěna obsazenost hnízd.

Abstract:

The Common Magpie (Pica pica) is species, that occurs the whole of the Czech Republic. It is more abundant in lower positions. In recent years, in this species we observe high rate of synathropization - colonization of human settlements. At the same time we lack relevant results of nesting density in cities and villages in the Czech Republic. This work deals with the nesting density and habitat preferences of the Common Magpie in three cities of the Moravian-Silesian region - Nový Jičín, Kopřivnice and Příbor. At the beginning of the research, all nests of Magpies from the three monitored areas were mapped. GPS coordinates are given for the nests. Furthermore, the condition and occupancy of the nest, its height and the species of tree were recorded. During the second inspection, during the period of pup release was again found out the occupancy of nests.
