Emotional and cognitive aspects of love for shared Christian faith in marriage

Abstract:

Cílem našeho výzkumu bylo prozkoumat vlivy křesťanské víry na emocionální a kognitivní aspekty lásky v manželství u křesťanského obyvatelstva České republiky. Předchozí studie se zabývaly vlivem křesťanství na nesezdané páry nebo vlivem křesťanství na partnerskou spokojenost. Z tohoto důvodu jsme se rozhodli prozkoumat lásku a její dimenze. Výzkumu se zúčastnilo 56 respondentů (z toho 31 křesťanů a 18 nevěřících). Zjišťovali jsme informace ohledně délky manželství a počtu dětí. K zmapování vlivů křesťanské víry jsme použili přeložené dotazníky Sternbergovy triangulární škály lásky (Sternberg triangular love scale) a Indexu párové spokojenosti (Couple satisfaction index). Z výsledků můžeme usoudit, že křesťané skórovali výše na škále „oddanost“ a „spokojenost“ než nevěřící respondenti. Z hlediska vášně nebyl významný statistický rozdíl a u škály „intimita“ se nám nepodařilo potvrdit statisticky významný rozdíl mezi respondenty. Počet dětí a délka manželství se nezdají mít významný vliv na výsledky. Naše studie identifikovala signifikantní vliv křesťanské víry na jak kognitivní a emocionální aspekt lásky u manželů. Ve výzkumu jsme poukázali na možné limity studie a pro následující výzkumy doporučujeme hlouběji prozkoumat osobnostní a socioekonomické vztahy mezi křesťanskou vírou a láskou.

Abstract:

The goal of our research is to look into the impact christian faith has on emotional and cognitive aspects of love in Czech married people. Former studies focused on the influence of christianity in unmarried couples or christianity’s influence on partner satisfaction. It is for this reason that we decided to explore love and it’s dimensions. 56 respondents took part in our research (31 christians and 18 non-believers). We asked for information about length of their marriage and number of children. To find out the influence of christianity, we used translated questionnaires of Sternberg’s triangular love scale and Couple satisfaction index. Based on the results, we can assume that christians scored higher in ‘'commitment'' and ‘'satisfaction'' than non-believing respondents. There was no significant statistical difference in terms of passion, and we were unable to confirm a statistically significant difference between respondents on the "intimacy" scale. The number of children and length of marriage don’t seem to have an impact on the results. Our study identified a significant influence christianity has on both cognitive and emotional aspects of love in married people. In our research, we pointed out the potential limitations of our study and we recommend to further explore socialeconomical relations between christian faith and love.
