The image of resilience in the context of posttraumatic growth

Abstract:

Smrt patří ve společnosti mezi tabuizovaná témata, proto ji mají lidé často spojenou pouze s negativními pocity a myšlenkami. Smrt milované osoby s sebou přináší mnoho bolesti, ale u některých osob dochází po nějaké době k posttraumatickému rozvoji. Naše práce se zabývá právě posttraumatickým rozvojem a resiliencí pozůstalých osob. Výzkumný soubor tvoří 152 respondentů, kteří ztratili blízkého člověka. Informace o posttraumatickém rozvoji jsme zjišťovali pomocí dotazníku PTGI-CZ a resilienci dotazníkem CD-RISC. Cílem práce je zjistit, zda existuje vztah mezi posttraumatickým rozvojem a residencí u pozůstalých osob, a zda má pohlaví, vztah k zemřelému a příčina úmrtí vliv na oba konstrukty. Výsledky poukazují na vztah mezi resiliencí a posttraumatickým rozvojem, obzvlášť v rámci silných stránek jedince. Ženy dosahovaly mírně vyšších hodnot v jednotlivých dimenzích posttraumatického rozvoje než muži. Vyšší míra posttraumatického rozvoje byla zaznamenána u osob, kterým zemřel partner a nižší u rodičů, kterým zemřelo dítě. Vliv příčiny úmrtí a vztahu se zemřelým na posttraumatický rozvoj pozůstalé osoby nebyl prokázán, ale to připisujeme nerovnoměrnému rozložení našeho vzorku.

Abstract:

Death belongs to a group of taboo topics, so people often associate it with negative feelings and thoughts only. The death of loved ones brings a lot of pain to bereaved person, but some people experience post-traumatic development after some time.Our work is focused on posttraumatic grow and resilience of bereaved people. Data were obtained from 152 respondents who have lost a close person. Information about posttraumatic grow have been examined by questionnaire PTGI-CZ and resilience by the questionnaire CD-RISC. The aim of this work is to find out whether there is a relationship between posttraumatic grow and resilience in bereaved people, and whether the gender, the relationship to the deceased and the cause of death affect both constructs. The results show the relationship between resilience and posttraumatic grow, especially within the strengths of the individual. Women achieved slightly higher values in the individual dimensions of posttraumatic grow than men. A higher rate of posttraumatic grow was noted in group of bereaved people whose partner died and lower in the parents who lost the child. The effect of the cause of death and relationship with the deceased on the posttraumatic grow was not proven, but we attribute that to the uneven distribution of our sample.
