Transnational Digital Corporations as New Security Actors

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se věnuje analýze rolí, kterých v bezpečnostním prostředí mohou nabývat nadnárodní digitální korporace, a to v kontextu bezpečnostní teorie sekuritizace. Tato teorie je rozšířena o nového aktéra bezpečnosti v pěti sektorech, které teorie sekuritizace zavádí: vojenském, environmentálním, ekonomickém, společenském a politickém. Práce analyzuje v těchto sektorech pět případových studií, v nichž nadnárodní digitální korporace působí jako aktéři i objekty bezpečnosti. Na základě tohoto spojení teorie s praktickými příklady nachází v chování korporací vzorce, z nichž tvoří závěry o jejich roli v bezpečnostním prostředí. Zodpovídá tím výzkumnou otázku, zda jsou nadnárodní digitální korporace důležitějším aktérem bezpečnosti než státy.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis is devoted to the analysis of the roles that transnational digital corporations can assume in the security environment, in the context of the security theory of securitization. This theory is expanded with the new actor of security in five sectors introduced by the theory of securitization: military, environmental, economic, social and political. The thesis analyzes five case studies in these sectors, in which transnational digital corporations act as both actors and objects of security. Based on this combination of theory and practical examples, she finds patterns in the behavior of corporations from which she draws conclusions about their role in the security environment. It answers the research question whether transnational digital corporations are more important security actors than states.
