Errors in Second Language Classroom Discourse

Abstract:

Předkládaná bakalářská práce se zabývá prací s chybou v mluveném diskurzu v hodinách cizího jazyka, konkrétně řeší otázku vztahu mezi opravou chyb ve školní komunikaci a opravou chyb v každodenní komunikaci. Na jedné straně je oprava chyb považována za podstatnou část učitelovy profese, na druhé straně je otevřený nesouhlas v běžné komunikaci potlačován. Práce se snaží odhalit kompromisy, které učitelé nacházejí, aby vyhověli jak požadavkům, které na ně klade institucionální diskurz, tak zdvořilostní zvyklosti běžné komunikace.

Abstract:

The presented thesis focuses on error treatment in second language classroom discourse, particularly on teacher-student oral communication. On the one hand, teachers are supposed to correct errors of their students, on the other hand, other-repair is considered unwelcomed in everyday conversation; therefore, teachers have to strike a balance between these contradictory requirements. The thesis tries to uncover what the fundaments of these opposite claims are and to illustrate the ways teachers deal with the tension.
