Deterrence of Terrorism

Abstract:

Magisterská práce se věnuje problematice odstrašování terorismu. Cílem je ověřit platnost teze, podle níž je odstrašení nestátních aktérů, konkrétně teroristických skupin, možné, avšak má jistá specifika oproti odstrašování států. Práce se věnuje vymezení odstrašovacích hrozeb, které lze vůči teroristickým skupinám směřovat, včetně rozebrání limitujících faktorů jejich uplatnění, a dále rovněž otázce, zda je možné strategii odstrašování úspěšně uplatnit ve stejné míře vůči všem typům teroristických skupin. V návaznosti na to vymezuje model členění teroristických skupin v závislosti na povaze jimi formulovaných cílů.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with deterrence of terrorism. The aim is to assess validity of a proposition that it is possible to deter nonstate actors and specifically terrorist groups, however, there are some specifics in comparison to the deterrence of states. The thesis determines deterrence threats which can be applied in relation to terrrorist groups and discusses possible restraints of their application in practice. It also deals with the question of whether deterrence can be applied against all types of terrorist groups without distinction and develops a model of classification of terrorist groups according to the goals which they pursue.
