Geography of youth on the example of the city of Letovice

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zaměřuje na geografii volného času mladých lidí ve věku 15 až 25 let v malém městě, a to na příkladu města Letovice. Cílem práce je identifi-kovat, jak mladí lidé tráví svůj volný čas, jaké jsou jejich preference a návyky v oblasti volnočasových aktivit ve městě Letovice a zdali odpovídají jejich potřebám a přáním. Práce vychází z předpokladu, že volný čas mladých lidí je důležitou součástí jejich ži-vota a má vliv na jejich vztah k městu samotnému. Teoretický rámec práce je založen na konceptech geografie volného času, prostorových aktivit mládeže a participace mládeže na chodu města. Metodologie práce je založena na kombinaci kvantitativního a kvalitativního výzku-mu, zahrnujícího dotazníkové šetření a focus group. Hlavními výsledky práce ukazují, že mladí lidé v Letovicích nejsou spokojeni s nabídkou kulturních a sociálních akcí, což je demotivuje k jejich navštěvování a obecně nepodněcuje touhu se ve městě usa-dit, jelikož jim neposkytuje dostatečné možnosti pro vyžití. Pro zlepšení situace na-vrhují kvalitnější propagaci volnočasové infrastruktury, akcí prostřednictvím sociál-ních sítí a webu města a vytvoření víceúčelového společenského prostoru.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on the geography of leisure time of young people aged 15 to 25 in a small town, using the example of Letovice. The aim of the work is to analyse how young people spend their free time, what their preferences and habits are in terms of leisure activities in the town of Letovice, and whether they correspond to their needs and wishes. The work is based on the assumption that the leisure time of young people is an im-portant part of their lives and has an impact on their relationship to the town itself. The theoretical framework of the work is based on the concepts of leisure geography, spatial youth activities, and youth participation in the functioning of the town. The methodology of the work is based on a combination of quantitative and qualita-tive research, including a survey and focus groups. The main results of the work show that young people in Letovice are not satisfied with the cultural and social events of-fered, which demotivates them from attending and generally does not encourage the desire to settle in the town, as it does not provide them with sufficient opportunities for recreation. To improve the situation, they suggest better promotion of leisure infrastructure and events through social media and the town's website, as well as creating a multi-purpose social space.
