Incorporating urban planning topics into geography education using elements of problem-based learning

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zaměřuje na implementaci urbanistických témat do geografického vzdělávání na základních a středních školách. Hlavním cílem bylo a) navrhnout a implementovat výukový blok zaměřený na urbanistická témata, b) pomocí metod akčního výzkumu posoudit účinnost navržené výuky, c) na základě výzkumných zjištění upravit vytvořené výukové materiály. V teoretické části práce je podrobně vysvětlena základní teorie problémově orientovaného učení, která byla východiskem pro vytvoření výuky, a dále jsou zde objasněny koncepty týkající se místa a urbanistických témat. Praktická část probíhala v 6. ročníku osmiletého gymnázia. Detailně popisuje proces a výsledky po-užité výzkumné metody akčního výzkumu, které byly následně reflektovány k eliminaci zanalyzovaných nedostatků. Výstupem jsou inovované výukové materiály a metodické průvodce pro učitele.

Abstract:

The thesis focuses on the implementation of urban planning topics into geographical education in elementary and secondary schools. The main objective was a) to design and implement an educational unit focused on urbanism, b) to assess the effectiveness of the proposed educational unit using action research methods, c) to adjust the created educational materials based on research findings. The theoretical part of the thesis explains in detail the basic theory of problem-based learning, which was the starting point for creating the lessons, and also clarifies concepts related to place and urban planning topics. The practical part took place in the 6th year of an eight-year grammar school. It describes in detail the process and results of the action research method used, which were subsequently reflected upon to eliminate analysed shortcomings. The outcomes are innovative educational materials and a methodological guide for teachers.
