Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zaměřuje na srovnání dvou příběhů hledání dospělosti a nezávislosti, a to v sérii o Harrym Potterovi spisovatelky J. K. Rowlingové a v trilogii Philipa Pullmana Jeho temné esence. Práce pojednává o pohledu na dobrodružství z hlediska genderu tím, že srovnává cestu k dospělosti mužského protagonisty, jež je reprezentován postavou Harryho Pottera spisovatelky Rowlingové, a ženské literární hrdinky, kterou zastupuje Pullmanova Lyra Belacqua. Hlavní tvrzení se opírá o předpoklad, že stále existují rozdíly mezi zobrazováním mužské a ženské literární postavy, a to především jejich hledání dospělosti pomocí dobrodružství. Hlavní část diplomové práce je rozdělena do tří kapitol. První z nich předkládá teoretický podklad práce, v němž jsou stanoveny cíle a charakteristické znaky literatury pro děti a vysvětleny pojmy dobrodružství a gender. Dále stanovuje rozdíly mezi různými druhy příběhů dospívání. Také je zde uvedena možnost jiného pojetí novodobé ženské hrdinky ve srovnání s tradiční ženskou literární postavou. Následující kapitola obsahuje samotnou analýzu příběhů dospívání Harryho a Lyry. Pro analýzu bylo použito osnovy příběhů hledání navržené autorkou Annis Prattovou. Závěrečná kapitola shrnuje a zobecňuje hlavní tvrzení diplomové práce, poukazuje na společné rysy analyzovaných děl a zdůrazňuje rozdíly mezi nimi.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis is designed as a comparative analysis of two quests for maturity and independence. It focuses on the coming-of-age novels within J.K.Rowling's Harry Potter series and Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy.It looks at how adventure can be perceived from the gender perspective as it compares the quest of a male character, represented by Rowling's Harry Potter and that of a female character, represented by Pullman's Lyra Belacqua. The main argument draws on the assumption that there are still differences between a male and a female hero, especially regarding their quest for maturity through adventures. The main body of the thesis consists of three chapters. The first one gives theoretical background, in which the goals and characteristic features of children's literature as well as the concepts of adventure and gender are explained. It also explains the differences between various kinds of quests. It suggests the concept of a new female hero comparing it with the old type of a woman character. The second chapter focuses on the analysis of Harry's and Lyra's quests, using Annis Pratt’s idea of a five-phase pattern. The final chapter summarizes and generalizes the main arguments of the thesis. It points out the similarities and stresses the differences between the analysed literary works.
