A Programme for Leisure Educators at German Organization Droste-Haus Focused on Cross-cultural Personal and Professional Experience

Abstract:

Proměny české společnosti na začátku 21. století s sebou přináší řadu nových výzev v oblasti volnočasové pedagogiky. Jednou z nich je prolínání různých kultur, jež je provázeno nejen jazykovými problémy, ale i kontakty s různými náboženstvími, zvyky, tradicemi a vzorci chování. Těmto neustále se měnícím skutečnostem je nutné se stále přizpůsobovat, tedy učit se. Naučit se jednat s lidmi z jiných kulturních kruhů (získat mezikulturní kompetenci) přitom v České republice není jednoduché, neboť společnost se mění jen pozvolna. Jednou z možností by se mohly stát odborně zaměřené zahraniční stáže, založené na intenzivním poznání jiné země a jejích odlišných kulturních a společenských podmínkách. Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá zorganizováním, uskutečněním a zhodnocením přínosu čtrnáctidenní odborné stáže pro české volnočasové pedagogy v německé organizaci Droste-Haus, která proběhla v červenci 2018. Jde v ní o osobní a profesní rozvoj dospělých, cílený na konkrétní jednotlivce a pokud možno co nejvíce individualizovaný. Prostřednictvím přímého prožitku se autorka pokusila přiblížit účastníkům specifika školství a volnočasové pedagogiky v Severním Porýní-Vestfálsku a zprostředkovat mezikulturní osobní a profesní zkušenost. Zvolila k tomu hospitace v pedagogických zařízeních, přímou práci s dětmi z jiných kultur a intenzivní setkávání se zahraničními kolegy a obyvateli. Cílem autorky a organizátorky bylo rozšíření všeobecného přehledu u účastníků, vytvoření vlastního názoru, uvědomění si případných předsudků a úprava neodpovídajících významových perspektiv. Případné změny zjišťovala na základě dotazníků a polostrukturovaných rozhovorů s několikaměsíčním odstupem. Ačkoli každá účastnice vyzdvihovala jinou skutečnost, která ji nejvíce ovlivnila, všechny s odstupem ohodnotily stáž jako náročnou a zároveň velmi přínosnou. Vyzdvihovaly přitom jak osobní, tak i profesní stránku. V řadě případů se účastnicím podařilo odhalit i vlastní předsudky a pozměnit své referenční rámce.

Abstract:

As the 21st century begins, the evolution of Czech society has brought a number of new challenges in leisure pedagogy. One such challenge is the interaction of different cultures, which can entail both language barriers and coming face-to-face with different customs, traditions, religions, and behavior patterns. These ever-changing circumstances require constant adaptation and learning. Learning to interact with people with different cultural backgrounds (i.e., gaining intercultural competence) can be challenging in the Czech Republic, where society can be somewhat insular. One option is professional internships abroad, which offer intensive contact with the environment of another country and the related differences in culture and society. This bachelor thesis describes the organization and selected events and discusses the benefits of a two-week internship held for Czech leisure pedagogues at the Droste-Haus center in Germany in July 2018. The internship focused on the personal and professional development of adults and was based on a highly individualized approach. As organizer and tutor, the author attempted to familiarize participants with the specifics of the school system and leisure pedagogy in the German federal land of North Rhine-Westphalia and facilitate personal and professional intercultural experiences. Methods included observer visits in educational institutions, direct work with children with diverse cultural backgrounds, and intensive contact with German colleagues and local citizens. The objective was to improve participants? general awareness of intercultural issues and to allow participants to form firsthand opinions on cultural matters and confront and rectify their own prejudices where applicable. Potential resulting changes in participants? cultural attitudes were tracked in semi-structured interviews conducted several months later. Different participants listed different facts as the most meaningful or instructive; however, all participants concluded that the internship, while often challenging, was ultimately highly beneficial to them both personally and professionally. In many cases, participants reported that the experience helped them overcome prejudices and adjust their frames of reference.
