Foundations and Conceptions of Deliberative Democracy

Abstract:

The goal of this paper is to describe roots of deliberative democracy. Secondary goal of the paper is to identify reasons that led to the increase of interest in participatory and deliberative concepts in recent years. There are three main theoretical roots of deliberative democracy concept: republican root, liberal root and root stemming from Habermas's critical theory. Each root is described thoroughly with an emphasis on identifying origins that influence current concepts of deliberative democracy. The paper finds four conflict lines among the concepts. These internal theoretical concepts are result from different concepts' roots.

Abstract:

Cieľom práce je skúmať a bližšie popísať jednotlivé korene deliberatívnej demokracie. Práca sa taktiež venuje príčinám zvýšeného záujmu o participatívne a deliberatívne koncepcie v posledných rokoch. Autor v práci stanovuje tri korene deliberatívnej demokracie: republikánsky, liberálny a kritickú teóriu v Habermasovom podaní. Jednotlivé korene sú podrobne rozpísané s dôrazom na hľadanie východísk, ktoré ovplyvňujú súčasné koncepty deliberatívnej demokracie. Výsledkom práce je vymedzenie štyroch konfliktných línií v rámci deliberatívnych koncepcií, ktoré sú dôsledkom odlišných koreňov, z ktorých tieto koncepty vychádzajú a niektorých ich nezlučiteľných aspektov.
