Circular economy in the construction industry

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá řešením problémů, kterým dnešní lineární ekonomika čelí. V první části se zabýváme ohroženými zdroji, které vztahujeme k mýtu neustálého růstu. Navazujeme vysvětlením konceptu udržitelného rozvoje a společenské odpovědnosti firem. Je uveden vliv ekonomických aktivit člověka na životní prostředí, je srovnáno množství vznikajícího odpadu v rámci různých zemí a průmyslů. Další část se již věnuje samotnému konceptu cirkulární ekonomiky, který je představen jako řešení stávající situace. Koncept je vysvětlen na příkladech a jsou uvedeny legislativní rámce pro jeho implementaci. Jsou popsány typy cirkulárních obchodních modelů. Praktická část práce detailně analyzuje činnost společností Skanska, a.s. a KOMA MODULAR, s.r.o. jakožto zástupců cirkulárních firem ve stavebnictví pro inspiraci dalším firmám v odvětví a na základě rozhovorů s jejich zástupci jsou uvedena doporučení pro vládní sektor, jak usnadnit rozšíření konceptu v praxi.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with the solution of problems that today's linear economy faces. The first part deals with endangered resources related to the myth of continuous growth. We continue by explaining the concept of sustainable development and corporate social responsibility. We show the impact of human economic activities on the environment, compare the amount of waste generated across different countries and industries. Another part is devoted to the concept of circular economy, which is presented as a solution to the current situation. The concept is explained on examples and is supported with legislative frameworks for its implementation. Types of circular business models are described. The practical part analyzes in detail the activities of Skanska, a.s. and KOMA MODULAR, s.r.o. as a representatives of circular construction companies to inspire other companies in the industry and based on interviews with their representatives, recommendations for the government sector are presented to facilitate the spread of the concept in practice.
