Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá analýzou vztahů dětí a rodičů v rodinách původních obyvatel severní Ameriky, a to ve sbírce povídek Shermana Alexieho Blasphemy, románu Leslie Marmon Sikové Ceremony a románu Louisy Erdrichové Love Medicine. První, teoretická část práce, zkoumá sociologické koncepty moderní americké rodiny a také nastiňuje historické události důležité pro porozumění fungování rodiny, které jsou popisovány ve vybraných knihách. Druhá část, rozdělená dále do tří kapitol, se zabývá analýzou tématu vztahů mezi rodiči a dětmi, zejména z pohledu dětí, ať již těch biologických, či pěstounských. Zvláštní důraz je kladen na popis mechanismů, které pomáhají postavám daných knih, které jsou zcela bez rodičů, aby se staly a zůstaly respektovanými členy svých komunit.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with analysis of the child-parent relationships in Native American families in Sherman Alexie´s book of short stories Blasphemy, Leslie Marmon Silko´s novel Ceremony and Louise Erdrich´s novel Love Medicine. The first, theoretical, part of the thesis examines the sociological concepts of modern American families and also outlines the historical events important for understanding the functioning of the families depicted in the selected books. The second part, divided further into 3 chapters, deals with the analysis of the theme of child-parent relationships mainly from the point of the view of both biological and foster children, the so called taken-ins. Special focus lies also on the description of individual mechanisms that help the completely parentless characters of the books to become and stay the respected members of their community.
