The Religion as Suicide rate Regulator: identification of dimensions of Christianity eliminating suicide rate of believers and their implementation in present societies

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá problematikou sebevražednosti ve vztahu k náboženství. V úvodu je nastíněn cíl práce, kterým je identifikovat jednotlivé dimenze náboženství (křesťanství), které mohou sloužit jako regulátory sebevražednosti. První část je věnována základním informacím týkajícím se problematiky suicidity (definování příčin, typů a forem), také postoji k sebevražednosti v dnešní společnosti a autorka nezapomíná ani na různé přístupy k sebevražednosti u jednotlivých oborů. Hlavním těžištěm práce je stanovení pěti různých funkcí, které náboženství vykonává v souvislosti s odvrácením suicidity. Autorka práce v další části aplikuje dimenze na křesťanské církve (protestantskou a katolickou) a snaží se tak ověřit univerzálnost zjištěných aspektů napříč křesťanskou vírou, případně stanovit příčiny diferencí mezi jednotlivými církvemi. S tím souvisí také snaha zjistit, zda jsou jednotlivé aspekty náboženství odvracející suiciditu časově konzistentní. Práce se zaměří především na fenomény moderní a postmoderní společnosti jako jsou svoboda, individualismus na jedné straně a pluralismus a relativismus na straně druhé. Autorka se pokusí zjistit, zda mají tyto fenomény vliv na schopnost náboženství vykonávat jednotlivé ochranné funkce.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with suicide issues in relation to religion. In introduction, there is outlined aim of the thesis, which is to identify particular dimensions of religion (of Christianity), which can serve as regulators of suicide rate. The first part of the thesis is devoted to basic informations about suicide issues (defining of causes, types and forms), also to attitude to suicide today and the author doesn’t forget about different attitudes to suicide in various disciplines. The main focus is on setting of five different functions, which religion carries out in a relation with preventing suicide. In the next part, the author applies dimensions on Christian Churches (the Protestant and the Catholic) and tries to verify versatility of founded aspects across Christian Faith, or to determine the causes of differences between individual churches. It is related to effort to find out, if the particular aspects of religion averting suicide are time-consistent. The thesis focuses on phenomenons of modern and postmodern society like freedom, individualism on the one hand and pluralism and relativism on the other hand. The author tries to find out, if this phenomenons have an impact on ability of religion to carry out individual protective functions.
