The aim of this paper is to provide an analysis of Erskine Caldwell's Tobacco Road and God's Little Acre in terms of the portrayal of the characters, as well as the poverty tormenting them in the times of the Great Depression. Cílem této práce je provedení analýzy ztvárnění postav a chudoby, kterou jsou postavy sužovány v době Velké hospodářské krize v dílech Tabáková Cesta a Boží Políčko Erskina Caldwella. První část práce poskytuje socio-historický rámec amerického Jihu včetně změn v podobě industrializace a Velké hospodářské krize v té době probíhající.
