Czech economic elites

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá teoriemi českých ekonomických elit. V úvodu jsou nastíněny klasické i současné teoretické proudy teorie elit a také obecný problém zastínění teorie elit teorií tříd v sociální debatě. Hlavní těžiště práce spočívá v představení jednotlivých teoretických přístupů k postsocialistickým ekonomickým elitám, které ovlivnily debatu po celá devadesátá léta. Autorka uvádí market transition theory, která nepřipouští kontinuitu starých elit, stejně tak i teorie více autorů, kteří ji naopak obhajují a kritizují kapitalistický meritokratický ideál. Tuto debatu uzavírají studie o českých elitách od Pavla Machonina a Milana Tučka, kteří téma reflektují na základě svého celoživotní zaměření na českou stratifikační strukturu a výzkumů z poloviny devadesátých let i na začátku nového milénia. Upozorněním na stárnutí těchto elit a na zahraniční kapitálové toky předesílají změnu debaty. Tu autorka sleduje pomocí nejnovějších teorií globální supertřídy od Davida Rothkopfa a elity postindustriální společnosti od Jana Kellera, které taktéž kritizují meritokratický ideál a elity, ovšem již ne kvůli jejich původu, ale z důvodu narůstajících sociálních nerovností mezi nimi a zbytkem společnosti. Dřívější i současná debata zdůrazňují význam rodinných strategií, které příslušníci elit při svém jednání sledují a stejně tak systém horizontálních a vertikálních sítí, které jim v jejich konání pomáhají.

Abstract:

This thesis is focusing on the theories of czech economic elites. In the introduction classical and also present trends of the elite theory are outlined and also the problem of overhadowing the elite theory by the class theory in a social debate is mentioned. The main emphasis of the study is posed on the introduction of every single theoretical approach to postsocialistic economic elites which had a major influence on the debate for the whole of the nineties. The author is featuring the market transition theory which does not admit the continuity of old elites, as well as theories of other authors who, on the contrary, advocate it, concurrently criticising meritocratic ideals of capitalism. This debate is closed with the studies about Czech elites by Pavel Machonin and Milan Tuček who reflect this theme on the basis of their whole life focus on the Czech stratification structure and their research from the middle of the 1990s as well as from the beginning of the new millennium. Drawing attention to the elites´aging and the foreign capital flows they premise a change of the debate. This is being observed by the author through the newest theory of global superclass by David Rothkopf and the theory of postindustrial society by Jan Keller, both of which also criticise the meritocratic ideal and elites, not because of their origin though, but because of the rising social unevennes between them and the rest of the society. The previous and contemporary debate emphasize the importance of familly strategies which are followed by elite members, as well as the system of vertical and horizontal ties which helps them in their activities.
