Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to determine the main characteristics of two seemingly not very similar writers: George Orwell and Charles Bukowski, specifically in their works Down and Out in London and Paris and Factotum. This study focuses on the influence of real life experiences and conditions that both writers had and compares how they were used in the books mentioned above. To conduct this study, it was first used the technique of close reading, which shows the writers' opinions and the way they dealt with certain topics in their works. The third chapter consists in investigation of their lives and direct influence on their writing of these autobiographical works in given time eras. It further focuses on similarities that were observed in the works of both authors.

Abstract:

Cíl této práce je určit hlavní charakteristiky dvou zdánlivě rozdílných autorů: George Orwella a Charlese Bukowského, zejména v jejich dílech Down and Out in London and Paris a Factotum. Tato práce se soustředí na vliv skutečného života a podmínek, ve kterých oba spisovatelé žili a popisuje, jak byly použity ve výše zmíněných dílech. K provedení této studie byly použita metoda pečlivého čtení, která ukazuje skutečné názory a způsob, jakým se vypořádali s určitými tématy ve svých dílech. Třetí kapitola spočívá v prozkoumání jejich životopisných údajů a jejich přímého vlivu na psaní těchto autobigorafických děl v daných časových úsecích. Dále se také zabývá podobnými vlastnostmi, které vykazují obě díla.
