Social engineering: in the context of cyber security

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá velice diskutovanou, v České republice příliš neprobádanou, oblastí sociálního inženýrství. Práce zkoumá sociální inženýrství v kontextu kybernetické bezpečnosti. Prvním cílem této práce je nalézt všechny základní mechanismy označovány relevantní literaturou za sociální inženýrství. Druhý cílem této práce je představit základní cyklus útoku sociálního inženýrství. Identifikace základních fází cyklu útoku sociálního inženýrství poslouží v další fázi výzkumu jako nástroj pro analýzu jednotlivých mechanismů. Posledním a zároveň hlavním cílem této práce je představit jednotlivé mechanismy sociálního inženýrství v kontextu kybernetické bezpečnosti. Práce bude analyzovat identifikované mechanismy považované za sociální inženýrství. U každého mechanismu je rozhodnuto, zda je možné přiřadit do kategorie sociálního inženýrství.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with a widely discussed topic of social engineering, which hasn’t been much explored yet. The research of social engineering is carried out in context of cyber security. The first goal of the thesis is to find all basic mechanisms that are considered, by the existing literature, as social engineering methods. The second goal is to introduce a general cycle of a social engineering attack. The next part of the research uses the identified phases of a social engineering attack as a tool for analysis of each individual mechanism. The last and also the main goal of this thesis is to introduce and analyse the identified methods of social engineering. For each individual method it is decided whether it can belong to social engineering category or not.
