US Police Violence against Black Americans Leading to the Black Lives Matter Movement

Abstract:

Cílem této práce bylo shrnout a rozebrat vývoj a důvody vzniku policejního násilí na Afroameričanech v USA což následně vyústilo k hnutí Black Lives Matter. Začátek je umístěn na historickém pozadí, začínající v roce 1619 s příchodem prvních otroků do Spojených Států a na éru Jim Crow. Po zrušení otroctví se situace paradoxně pro Afroameričany nezlepšuje, ale nabírá jiných rozměrů. Jejich právně nabytá svoboda nebyla v podstatě nikdy realizována a dodržována. Naopak po zrušení otroctví bílí samozvanci brali zákon a jeho vykonávání krutě do svých rukou prvotní dějiny USA po zrušení otroctví jsou poznamenány lynčováním. Neochotou respektovat svobodu, práva a rovnocennost druhého člověka vzniká spirála násilí vedoucí k dnešnímu neutěšenému bezpečnostnímu stavu v USA. Historické předsudky, sociální nerovnost, a hlavně nekončící diskriminace vytvořily podhoubí vzniku hnutí Black Lives Matter, díky kterému se problematika násilí na Afroameričanech dostala více do povědomí širší veřejnosti a tím docházím k pozvolným změnám v legislativě v prospěch černých Američanů.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis was to summarize and analyse the development and reasons for the emergence of police violence against Black Americans in the USA which subsequently led to the Black Lives Matter movement. The beginning is placed against a historical backdrop, beginning in 1619 with the forceful arrival of the first slaves to the United States and the Jim Crow era. On the other hand, after the abolition of slavery, the situation does not improve for Black Americans but takes on different dimensions. Their legally acquired freedom was essentially never realized or respected. Conversely, after the abolition of slavery, white slaveholders took the law and its enforcement cruelly into their own hands, and US history is marked by these lynchings. The unwillingness to respect the freedom, rights and equality of the other person has created a spiral of violence leading to the dismal security situation in the US today. Historical prejudice, social inequality and, most importantly, discrimination have created the breeding ground for the Black Lives Matter movement, thanks to which the issue of violence against Black Americans has become more widely known to the general public which led to changes in the legislature in favour of Black Americans.
