The Authors of Jewish Origin in Czech Theatre of the 20th Century

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce Tvůrci židovského původu v českém divadle 20. století dokumentuje vývoj vnímání židovské identity ve 20. století na životních osudech a příkladech tvorby vybraných českých tvůrců židovského původu. Tyto osobnosti autorka zasazuje do daného kulturně-historického kontextu, který jejich přístup k židovství ovlivnil. Nejvíce prostoru je z vybraných tvůrců věnováno Františku Langerovi, Ludvíku Aškenázymu, Arnoštu Goldflamovi a Karolu Sidonovi. Analýza vybraných dramat autorů odhaluje židovské motivy a motivy spojené s hledáním identity daného autora. Zároveň tito čtyři dramatici v úhrnu vytvářejí model názorové různorodosti české židovské společnosti. Práce ukazuje, že toto názorové rozložení se v určitých obměnách v průběhu 20. století opakuje.

Abstract:

Bachelor thesis Authors of Jewish Origin in Czech Theatre of the 20th Century focuses on the evolution of jewish identity in the 20th century via life paths and production of selected czech theatre artists with jewish origin. The author interconnects these personalities with their cultural and historical context which had formed their attitude to Jewishness. The most extended profiles are those of four czech playwrights Frantisek Langer, Ludvik Askenazy, Arnost Goldflam and Karol Sidon. The analysis of their selected plays reveals jewish motifs and motifs connected with searching for identity. Together these four playwrights create a model of statement variety and possible attitudes to the jewish identity. The theses reveals that, although in slight differencies, these statements repeat throughout the 20th century.
