Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se věnuje osobnosti dobře známého amerického spisovatele a básníka Charlese Bukowského. Jeho alter ego, Henry Chinaski, vytváří neobvykle přesný obraz života americké spodiny a boje proti ideálu Amerického snu. Cílem této práce je představit Charlese Bukowského prostřednictvím jeho literárního díla, které je do velké míry autobiografické. Práce popisuje Bukowského jako nevšedního spisovatele, porovnává jej s jeho současníky a vymezuje v rámci Beat Generation a spisovatelů Dirty Realismu. Prostřednictvím analýzy autobiografických románů práce popisuje život Charlese Bukowského nejen jako ponižovaného chlapce, opilce, beznadějného smolaře, ale také jako výborného spisovatele, který byl schopen detailně popsat život americké spodiny syrovým jednoduchým jazykem a hlubší význam zahalit v alkoholové mlze.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with the personality of a well-known American writer and poet Charles Bukowski. His alter ego, Henry Chinaski, a very faithful representative of the American lowlife, fights the battle against the American Dream. The aim of this thesis is to present Charles Bukowski through his work which is highly autobiographical. It introduces Charles Bukowski as an extraordinary writer, excludes him from the Beats and the Dirty Realism and compares him with his contemporaries. By analyzing his autobiographical novels, the thesis follows the life of a humiliated child, drunk and a hopeless looser. At the same time it points out the craftsmanship of the skilled writer who was able to describe the problems of the lower classes with the raw simple language and hide the deeper meaning in the alcoholic fog.
