Epidemiology of Balance Disorders

Abstract:

Závratě a poruchy rovnováhy se v lidské populaci vyskytují bez ohledu na pohlaví a věk. Představují tak po bolestech hlavy druhou nejčastější příčinu návštěvy u lékaře. Cílem této diplomové práce bylo zjistit frekvenci výskytu poruch rovnováhy u pacientů v závislosti na věku a pohlaví. Teoretická část je zaměřena na anatomii a fyziologii sluchově-rovnovážného ústrojí. Dále se práce zabývá příčinami vzniku poruch rovnováhy, jejich včasnou diagnostikou a možností léčby. Závěr teoretické části je věnován epidemiologii závrativých stavů a jejich zastoupení ve vybraných oblastech světa. V praktické části bylo provedeno vlastní průzkumné šetření pomocí záznamového listu. Údaje byly získány z Centra pro poruchy sluchu a rovnováhy v Ostravě Porubě. Zjištěné výsledky byly zpracovány metodou popisné statistiky a následně prezentovány ve formě tabulek a grafů. Dále byly v praktické části této diplomové práce využity údaje získané z databáze Epidemiologické a genetické studie frekvence sluchových vad řešené v rámci projektu číslo NT/12246 ? 5 Interní grantové komise Ministerstva zdravotnictví (IGA MZ). Cílem studiem je vyhodnocení sluchových poruch u lidí žijících na Karvinsku. Z tohoto dotazníkového šetření byla vybrána pouze data, jež se přímo týkala poruch rovnováhy. Údaje byly následně zpracovány a vyhodnoceny. Z výsledků vlastního šetření i z údajů databáze vyplývá, že výskyt poruch rovnováhy byl častější u žen než u mužů. Bylo také potvrzeno, že od 45 roku stoupá počet závrativých stavů. U osob se závratí bylo prokázáno, že se u nich současně s poruchou rovnováhy častěji vyskytuje také bolest hlavy a tinnitus. Ze šetření vyplynulo, že kouření a stupeň vzdělání nehrají roli v četnosti závratí.

Abstract:

Dizziness and balance disorders in human populations occurs regardless of gender and age. After headaches, it is the second most common reason,why people visit doctor. The aim of this thesis was to determine the frequency of balance disorders of patients, depending on age and gender. The theoretical part focuses on the anatomy and physiology of hearing-equilibrium mechanisms. Furthermore, the work examines the causes of balance disorders, their early diagnostics and treatment options. Finally, the theoretical part is dedicated to the epidemiology of vertiginous states and their representation in selected regions in the world. There is an own exploratory research, which uses the record sheet, in the practical part. Data were obtained from the Centre for hearing and balance disorders in Ostrava Poruba. The results have been processed using descriptive statistics and then presented in the form of tables and charts. In addition, the data obtained from the database of Epidemiological and genetic study of the frequency of hearing loss in the project number of NT/12246-5 internal grant Commission of Ministry of health (IGA MZ) were used in practical part of this dissertation. The study aims to evaluate hearing disorders of people living in the District of Karviná. Only the data that are directly related to disorders of balance, has been selected from this questionnaire survey. Then the data were processed and evaluated. The results of own investigation and the data from information database shows that the occurence of balance disorders was more common for women than for men. It was also confirmed that count of vertiginous states is rising for people over 45 years of age. It has been proved, that people with vertigo often have balance disorders together with headache and tinnitus. The investigation showed that smoking and level of education do not play a role in the frequency of vertigo.
