The Contribution of Czech Agencies to the Czech Economic Diplomacy

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce „Přínosy českých agentur pro českou ekonomickou diplomacii“ se soustřeďuje na činnost tří agentur – CzechInvest, CzechTrade a CzechTourism, jejichž posláním je prosazovat ekonomické zájmy České republiky v zahraničí. Klade si za cíl zhodnotit přínosy a nedostatky jejich připravovaného sloučení. Kromě toho zkoumá dopady pandemie Covid-19 na možnosti zmiňovaných agentur podporovat rozvoj české ekonomiky. V teoretické části práce je definován pojem ekonomická diplomacie, je uveden přehled o působení světových institucí, jež se zabývají podporou obchodu a popsána činnost a struktura jednotlivých agentur. Práce dále popisuje Projekt CzechHouse – synergie implementačních agentur. V praktické části práce shrnuje autorka výsledky provedeného výzkumu. Šetření bylo provedeno jednak mezi zástupci managementu jednotlivých agentur a jednak mezi zástupci firem, které s agenturami spolupracují. Pomocí strukturovaných rozhovorů a dotazníků autorka zjišťovala zejména názory na připravované sloučení agentur, vliv pandemie Covid-19 na činnost agentur a na českou ekonomiku obecně. Většina respondentů se k plánovanému sloučení staví negativně. Pandemie nejbolestněji zasáhla oblast cestovního ruchu, ale i stakeholdeři dalších dvou agentur předpovídají zhoršení ekonomické situace a zvyšování cen.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis "Benefits of Czech Agencies for Czech Economic Diplomacy" focuses on the activities of three agencies - CzechInvest, CzechTrade and CzechTourism, whose mission is to promote the economic interests of the Czech Republic abroad. It aims to evaluate the benefits and shortcomings of their upcoming merger. In addition, it examines the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the ability of these agencies to support the development of the Czech economy. The theoretical part of the thesis defines the concept of economic diplomacy, gives an overview of the activities of global institutions dealing with trade promotion and describes the activities and structure of individual agencies. The thesis also describes the CzechHouse Project - synergy of implementing agencies. In the practical part of the thesis, the author summarizes the results of the conducted research. The survey was conducted both among representatives of the management of individual agencies and among representatives of companies that cooperate with the agencies. The author used structured interviews and questionnaires to find out opinions regarding the planned merger of the agencies and regarding the influence of the Covid-19 pandemic on activities of the agencies and Czech economy in general. Most respondents expressed a negative opinion on the intended merger. The pandemic very seriously affected tourism, however, stakeholders of the two remaining agencies foresaw deterioration of the economic situation and price increase as well
