The Comparison of the Salazar and Franco Non-Democratic Regimes

Abstract:

Tématem bakalářské práce je komparace charakteristických rysů nedemokratických režimů v Portugalsku a Španělsku v období vlády Antónia de Oliveiry Salazara, resp. Francisca Franca. Časově se práce soustředí na období od 30. let do poloviny 70. let dvacátého století. Cílem práce je porovnat příčiny a okolnosti vzniku obou diktatur, roli postavení vůdců, hlavní opory jejich vlády, vztah k opozici či politickým stranám. Na základě vybraných kritérií vymezí práce shodné a rozdílné prvky Salazarova a Francova režimu a zařadí oba tyto režimy k odpovídajícímu typu nedemokratického režimu.Teoretickými východisky práce jsou teorie nedemokratických režimů s důrazem na definici autoritářství a totalitarismu a jejich možné typologie a klasifikace. Pozornost je zaměřena také na analýzu režimů z hlediska problematiky politického vůdcovství a kultu osobnosti. Pro dosažení stanovených cílů práce využívá empiricko-analytický přístup a komparativní metodu.

Abstract:

The subjekt matter of this thesis is the comparison of the characteristics of the non-democratic regimes in Portugal and Spain under the rule of António de Oliveira Salazar and Francisco Franco. The thesis will focus on the epoch from 30th to the mid-70th of the Twentieth Century. The aim of this thesis is to compare the causes and the circumstances of both dictatorships, leader’s position, main supports of their rules, relationship with the opposition and with political parties. On the basis of the selected criterions the thesis will define the same and different componets units of the Franco and Salazar regimes and they will assign to the corresponding type of the non-democratic regime. The theoretical solutions are the theory of non-democratic regimes with the emphasis on the definition of authoritarianism and totalitarism and on their possible typologies and classifications. The attention is focused on the analysis of the regimes in term of the problems of the political leadership and of the personality cult. The thesis uses empirical-analytical approach and comparative method for the achievement of defined aims.
