Abstract:

The aim of this diploma thesis is to examine the specific aspects of Native American myths and legends which require the special attention of the translator and analyze and comment on the solutions and errors in translation made by the translators. The corpus consists of nine anthologies translated from English by seven different translators. The thesis includes a theoretical background the aim of which is to introduce the contextual issues of the source texts influencing the translation, an analysis of the selected translation solutions, and an evaluation of work of individual translators.

Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce je rozbor překladatelských problémů a jevů, které jsou specifické pro překlad indiánských mýtů a legend z anglického do českého jazyka, a zhodnocení vybraných dosavadních překladů. Jako korpus slouží devět antologií od sedmi různých překladatelů. Práce obsahuje teoretický úvod, jehož cílem je přiblížit kontextové vlastnosti zdrojových textů, které mají vliv na překlad, dále analýzu zvolených překladatelských řešení a závěrem zhodnocení práce jednotlivých překladatelů.
