The Analogy of the City and Soul in Plato´s Dialogue Constitution

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá problematikou analogie obce a duše v Platónově dialogu Ústava. Nejprve se práce soustředí na vysvětlení pojmu spravedlnosti a jeho obsahu v rámci antického myšlení a společnosti druhé poloviny pátého století př. n. l. Následně představuje samotný dialog a názory Platónova Sókrata na tento pojem v Ústavě. Od třetí kapitoly se práce zaměřuje na rozbor Platónova díla v souvislosti s analogií obce a duše od Bernarda Williamse. Závěr práce je věnován kritice a přehodnocení Williamsových závěrů v rámci jeho interpretace analogie obce a duše od Wu Tianyue.

Abstract:

The issues of the analogy of the city and soul in Plato?s dialogue Republic are dealt in this thesis. Firstly, it is focused on the explanation of the concept of justice and its content within the ancient Greek thinking and the society of the second half of the fifth century B.C. Subsequently, the dialogue and opinions of Plato?s Socrates on this concept in Republic are presented. From the third chapter, the thesis is focused on the analysis of the Plato's work in connection with the analogy of the city and soul by Bernard Williams. The conclusion of this work is dedicated to the criticism and review of Williams's conclusions within his interpretations of the analogy of the city and soul by Wu Tianyue.
