Eugene Rousseau and his way to Czech music

Abstract:

Eugene Rousseau je světově uznávaným saxofonistou, průkopníkem a inovátorem v oblasti klasického saxofonu. Zmapováním jeho života jsem chtěla upozornit na jeho neocenitelné služby, nejen ve světě saxofonu, ale i co se týče prezentace české hudby. Získal Fulbrightovo stipendium na studium v Paříži u Marcela Mulea, je spolu-zakladatelem World Saxophone Congress a více než 25 let spolupracoval s Japonskou firmou Yamaha na vývoji saxofonů a hubiček. Dlouhodobě se věnoval prezentaci soudobé české hudby a spolupracoval s českými interprety i autory. Přátelství se skladatelem Jindřichem Feldem zapříčinilo vznik mnoha nových skladeb pro saxofon, které ve většině případů premiéroval. Díky rozhovorům s jeho českými spoluhráči, jsem názorně představila osobnost Eugena Rousseaua. Nejdůležitějším bodem mé práce, je však otevřený rozhovor s Eugenem Rousseauem, který mi pomohl doplnit chybějící detaily.

Abstract:

Eugene Rousseau is a world-renowned saxophonist, pioneer and innovator in the field of classical saxophone. By mapping his life, I wanted to draw attention to his invaluable services, in the world of saxophone and also in terms of the presentation of Czech music. He received a Fulbright scholarship to study in Paris with Marcel Mule, also he is the co-founder of the World Saxophone Congress and has worked with the Japanese company Yamaha for more than 25 years to develop saxophones and mouthpieces. He has been presenting contemporary Czech music and collaborated with Czech performers and authors. The friendship with the composer Jindřich Feld created many new compositions for saxophone, which he premiered in most cases. Thanks to interviews with his Czech music friends, I clearly introduced the personality of Eugene Rousseau. The most important point of my work was an open interview with Eugene Rousseau, which helped me fill in the missing details.
