"IT SEEMS, THAT THE MOST CAREFUL AND CULTIVATED CRAFTMANSHIP IS DYING OUT." /L. Sutnar

Abstract:

The theme of my Bachelor´s thesis is the quote of Ladislav Sutnar: "It seems, that the most careful and cultivated craftmanship is dying out." I tryed to think about this quote in different ways. I believe that the definition of "the most careful and cultivated craftmanship" can be interpreted differently by everyone based on their experiences. I choose this topic because I wanted to develop my skills in the craft of metal. Work with metal is for me connected with my first project at the department of Jewelry and Metal Design. The topic was Breath. In this work I made 7 brooches reminding shapes of compressed air bottles. Back then I didn´t have practice in working wih metal. I used way too much silver solder and I mixed brass and copper so I was not able to solder them properly. However final form accidently entered into "steampunk" style. Which gives me another layer of my bachelor work. "Steampunk" is under the genre of sci - fi. The grandfather of this genre is Jules Verne. Inspirated by him, movies like "A Trip to the Moon" and "The Outrageous Baron Munchausen" was made. Characteristic for these genre is that technical machines helps to people undertake extraordinary adventure. It is often in different alternatives scenarios. I made a set of components when the owner can construct his own "machines for the adventure". Steampunk is here like metaphore for people to dream and play (construct). It is a message to not be scary of the adventure, life or anything what can come.

Abstract:

Inšpiračnými bodmi sa mi stali krátkometrážne filmy ako Cesta na mesiac (z orig. Le voyage dans la lune), Cesta do nemožna (z orig.Voyage ? travers l'impossible) ktoré napísal a režíroval Georges Méli?s, či český Baron prášil od Karla Zemana. "Tak tohle ma příteli přivádí na myšlenku. Hleďte, stará, dobrá země. Což nemá právo potešit se též, z našeho úžasného objevu? Já se tam vydám, hneď a okamžite a měsíčňana vemu hezky sebou ať pozná kderak žijeme, ať uvidí, kterak jse oblíkáme, ať také pocítí co je to láska, jako milujeme, jak vůbec pozná a chuť a vůní dobrodružství nech pozná měsíčňan co je to život na zemi." (Úryvok z filmu Baron Prášil) Príbehy, ktoré sa tam odohrávajú ma uchvacovali romantizmom a fantastickými predstavami o technologických vymoženostiach. "Prístroje", ktoré majú kovový charakter sa stávajú prvkom, ktorý hlavným hrdinom napomáha zažiť neuveriteľné dobrodružstvo. Ale prečo vyrobiť práve šperk? Prečo nie objekty, sochy či inštaláciu? Pre mňa osobne šperk nie je len o tom ozdobiť sa. Pre mňa je šperk "to" na viac, čo mi dodáva pocit sebaistoty. Rozhodla som sa teda vyrobiť kolekciu šperkov, ktoré sa dajú zmontovať a skladať tak aby si "hlavný hrdina" (nositeľ šperku) mohol vytvoriť svoje vlastné fantastické "prístroje", ktoré mu dodajú pocit sebaistoty a odvahu každý deň zažiť nové dobrodružstvo. Montovanie, výroba vlastnej zostavy je navádzanie na hru a rozvoj umožňuje tvorenie aj nositeľovi.
