Změna volné energie je hnací silou jakýkoliv kinetických procesů, jako jsou chemické reakce. Interkalace, reakce kdy ligand, nejčastěji organická sloučenina, se váže mezi páry bazí DNA dvoušroubovice, vede k otevření páru bazí a to může způsobit několi změn v DNA struktuře a funkci. Free energy difference is the driving force of any kinetic processes, such as chemical reactions. Intercalation, reaction when ligand, usually organic compound, binds into bases of DNA double helix, cased base pair opening and it can cause several changes of DNA structure and functions.
