Abstract:

Tato práce je zaměřena na vodní režim stromů dospělého smíšeného lužního lesa na jižní Moravě, což je typ ekosystému, který je vážně ohrožen z důvodu poklesu hladiny podzemních vod a častějším obdobím sucha. Transpirační tok (Q), radiální růst (GRO), vodní deficit stromů (TWD) a účinnost využití vody na základě růstu (WUEBAI), fenologie listů a struktury porostu byly zkoumány na společně se vyskytujících dřevinách: dubu letním, jasanu úzkolistém a habru obecném, během tří po sobě jdoucích vegetačních období v letech 2016, 2017 a 2018 s rozlišnými klimatickými podmínkami a dostupností vody v pudě. Specifický transpirační tok (Qw) a tok na úrovní celého stromu (Qtree) byl ve všech vegetačních obdobích nejvyšší u dubu a nejnižší u jasanu. Transpirační tok dobře korespondoval s biometrickými proměnnými charakterizujícími velikost stromu a pozici stromu v porostní struktuře, a tato závislost se lišila mezi druhy stromů. Intenzita transpirace stromu pak byla ovlivněna velikostí stromu a jeho architekturou, osvětlením koruny a konkurenčními podmínkami. Byla ale také závislá na druhově specifické reakci na měnící se mikroklimatické podmínky a dostupnost půdní vody. GRO a WUEBAI byly nejvyšší u jasanu a nejnižší u habru. Druhy se lišily velikostí a dynamikou TWD, který ukazoval největší využití zásoby vody ve kmeni pro jasan a nejmenší pro habr. Pokles Qw, podstatně vyšší TWD a relativně nižší odezva Qw na snižující se nasycení atmosféry vodními parami poukazují, že jasan úzkolistý je ze studovaných druhů na omezený přísun vody nejcitlivější. Nejvyšší radiální přírůstek jasanu však nebyl suchem ovlivněn, protože velká část růstu skončila již před nástupem sucha. Duby pokles Qw během sucha nevykazovaly, což bylo pravděpodobně způsobeno jejich větším a hlubším kořenovým systémem, který umožňoval, na rozdíl od mělkého kořenového systému habru a jasanu, stahovat vodu z hlubších vrstev půdy. Tento druh však také vykazoval vyšší TWD během sucha, což naznačuje jeho určité omezení příjmu vody z půdy. Silná vazba Qw na mikroklimatické podmínky a nejnižší hodnoty TWD potvrdily nižší náchylnost habru na sucho. Studované druhy se také lišily v načasování a trvání fenologických fází listů, což odpovídalo sezónnímu chodu transpirace stromů a radiálního růstu kmene a bylo působené rozlišnou anatomii a fungováním dřeva kruhovitě-pórovitých dubů a jasanu a roztroušeně pórovitého habru. Transpirační tok na úrovní porostu a radiální růst mohou být na této lokalitě považovány za nízké, což naznačuje dlouhodobé zhoršování růstových podmínek pro hlavní dřeviny a produktivitu ekosystému. Citlivost jasanu může souviset se zvýšenou konkurencí o vodu mezi citlivějším jasanem a habrem, který je vůči suchu odolnější, což způsobuje zhoršení růstových podmínek pro jasan. Proto se předpokládá, že další snižování hladiny podzemní vody a zvyšování frekvence a intenzity stresu suchem může způsobit změny v druhovém složení. To povede k novému typu rostlinného společenstva a vymizení cenných druhů listnatých dřevin.

Abstract:

This study was conducted in mature mixed floodplain forest in the Southern Moravia, an ecosystem type that is under severe threat due to a human-induced decline in groundwater levels and more frequent drought periods. Tree sap flow (Q), radial growth (GRO), tree water deficit (TWD) and growth-based water use efficiency (WUEBAI), stand structure and leaf phenology were examined on tree co-occurring tree species: pedunculate oak, narrow-leaved ash and common hornbeam. The measurements were conducted during three consecutive growing seasons 2016-2018 differing in microclimatic conditions and soil water availability. It was hypothesised that observed drought caused by a deficit in summer precipitation and high evaporative demands is less compensated by available groundwater and therefore increases climate sensitivity of trees, but the response of trees is species-specific. Oak showed the highest specific (Qw) and tree-level sap flow (Qtree), while ash had the lowest sap flow rates. Sap flow corresponded well with biometric variables characterising tree size and position of a tree within stand structure, but the strength and shape of the functions describing Qtree from biometric parameters differed between species. The magnitude of tree transpiration was then the effect of tree size and its architecture, crown illumination and competition conditions, but also related to species-specific response to changing microclimatic conditions and soil water availability. GRO and WUEBAI were the highest for ash and the lowest for hornbeam during three studied years. The species differed in the magnitude and dynamics of TWD, showing the highest use of stem water storage for ash, and the smallest for hornbeam. The decrease in Qw, higher TWD, and relatively low response of Qw to increasing evaporation demands suggested that narrow-leaved ash is the most sensitive to limited water supply among the studied species. Oak trees did not show a decrease in Qw during drought, which was assumed to be caused by its larger and deeper root system that allowed to withdraw water from deeper soil layers in contrast to the shallow root system of hornbeam and ash. The strong coupling of Q with microclimatic conditions, and the lowest values of TWD, confirmed lower susceptibility of hornbeam to drought. The studied species differed in the timing and duration of leaf phenological phases, which corresponded to seasonal pattern of tree transpiration and radial growth, and was related to differences in anatomy and functioning of xylem between ring-porous ash and oak and diffuse-porous hornbeam. Stand transpiration and radial growth were considered low at this site, suggesting long-term worsening of growth conditions for main tree species and productivity of this site. The partitioning of stand transpiration and sensitivity of ash may be related to the increased competition for water between more sensitive ash and more drought-tolerant hornbeam, causing worsening of growth conditions for ash trees. Therefore, it is assumed that further declining of water table and an increase in frequency and severity of drought stress may exacerbate species composition changes resulting in a new type of plant association and elimination of valuable hardwood species.
