Theory of Populism and the Party Smer

Abstract:

The bachelor´s thesis deals with the theory of populism by political scientist Matthijs Roodujina, which is then applied to the Slovak political party Smer. The aim of this work is to determine whether Smer meets characteristics of populism according to the theory and thus ranks among the populist formation. In the theoretical part, the stress is on the theory of populism, but also the introduction of Smer and conditions under which party operates. The analytical part emphasizes the application of theory of populism to the party Smer. An important part of this work is the comparison of the two election campaigns, whose allow answering the question whether the party Smer is populist formation.

Abstract:

Predkladaná bakalárska práca sa zaoberá teóriou populizmu od politológa Matthijsa Roodujina, ktorá je následne aplikovaná na slovenskú politickú stranu Smer. Cieľom práce je zistiť, či strana Smer spĺňa znaky populizmu podľa danej teórie a tým pádom sa radí medzi populistické formácie. V teoretickej časti bakalárskej práce je kladený dôraz predovšetkým na teóriu populizmu, ale aj predstavenie strany Smer a pomery v akých strana pôsobí. Analytická časť kladie dôraz na aplikáciu teórie populizmu na stranu Smer. Dôležitou súčasťou tejto práce je komparácia dvoch predvolebných kampaní, ktoré nám pomôžu odpovedať na otázku, či je strana Smer populistická formácia.
