A comparison of psychosocial coaching approaches to training men and women basketball teams

Abstract:

Diplomová práce je zaměřena na problematiku, která z našeho pohledu není v dnešní době dostatečně zmiňována. Cílem práce je zjistit percepci interpersonálních vazeb u basketbalových trenérů – mužů a v dílčích cílech porovnat tyto vazby při vedení mužského a ženského družstva z hlediska vhodných aspektů k danému pohlaví. Použitými strategiemi výzkumu jsou kvantitativní a komparativní výzkum s následným užitím dedukce. Pro zjištění interpersonálního chování byla použita metoda standardizovaného ICL dotazníku interpersonální diagnózy. Podpůrná demografická data byla zjištěna pomocí ankety. Výsledkem práce je zjištění, že se osobnost basketbalových trenérů může, avšak nemusí lišit při vedení mužských a ženských družstev. Přínosem pro svět sportu je zjištění, že každý jedinec, basketbalový trenér, je specifickou individualitou s vlastními přístupy při vedení mužských a ženských družstev. Zmiňovaná teorie se opírá o jednotlivé kazuistiky 8 záměrně vybraných basketbalových trenérů, podle kterých lze určit danou osobnost trenérů a následně blíže specifikovat jejich přístupy k vedení družstev mužů a žen. Pro budoucí praxi v tomto oboru by mohlo být užitečné doplnit probíranou problematiku do širšího vzdělávání trenérů napříč všemi sporty, u kterých lze daný sport rozdělit z hlediska mužského a ženského kolektivu. Naopak limity práce lze spatřit ve velikosti zkoumaného souboru a do budoucna by tak bylo vhodné rozšířit a koncipovat výzkum na širší sportovní pole a zapojit více trenérů i z jiných sportů a disciplín.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with a problematics which is in our opinion not examined enough today. The goal of this work is to examine the perception of interpersonal relations of male basketball coaches and, partially, to compare the relations within a male team to a female team regarding the optimal aspects of approach to a given sex. The strategies used in the research are the qualitative and the quantitative research with subsequent deduction. For examining of the interpersonal behavior, the standardized ICL diagnose research questionnaire method was used. Supporting demographic data were gained through a survey. As a result we conclude that the personality of a basketball coach may, although not necessarily, differ in training a male and a female team. The contribution to the world of sport is the conclusion that every individual, every basketball coach is a specific individuality with their own system of approach to a male, or a female team. This theory is based in individual case reports of 8 intentionally chosen basketball coaches according to which a personality of a coach is possible to examine and subsequently their approach can be researched. For further research, it would be useful to place these ideas into a broader context of coach education regarding all sports where men and women teams are distinguished. On the other hand, the work is limited by the size of the sample and it will be appropriate to extend the research to a broader context of more coaches of more various sports.
