This master thesis deals with cognitive metaphors used by selected British media in online news articles about the current Covid-19 crisis. Particularly, the thesis aims to explore the portrayal of the pandemic in the news articles and its development in time as well as to explain the affects the metaphors may have on the readers of the news. Tato diplomová práce se zabývá kognitivní metaforou používanou vybranými britskými deníky v online novinových článcích o aktuální koronavirové krizi. Práce konkrétně zkoumá obraz pandemie konstruovaný ve zkoumaných článcích a dále objasňuje dopad, jaký mohou užité metafory mít na čtenáře.
