Nurses´ and patients´ perceptions of caring behaviors at selected clinical departments

Abstract:

Cíl: Cílem práce bylo zjistit vnímání pečovatelského chování sestrami a pacienty na vybraných klinických odděleních Sanatoria Jablunkov a Nemocnice Podlesí v Třinci v kontextu poskytované ošetřovatelské péče. Zjistit a porovnat případné rozdíly ve vnímání pečovatelského chování mezi pacienty a sestrami, dále mezi odděleními akutní péče a odděleními dlouhodobé péče. Metodika: Data byla sbírána v období dubna až července 2011 nástrojem Caring Behaviors Inventory (CBI-24) u 178 pacientů a 108 sester. Sestry a pacienti hodnotili pečovatelské chování na Likertově škále. Pro analýzu dat byly použity metody popisné statistiky, t-test a test ANOVA. Pro zpracování dat byl použit statistický software STATA v. 10. Statistické testy byly hodnoceny na 5 % hladině významnosti. Výsledky: Pacienti hodnotili pečovatelské chování celkově nižšími známkami než sestry. Pacienti a sestry ze zařízení dlouhodobé péče hodnotili pečovatelské chování hůře než pacienti a sestry z oddělení akutní péče. Za nejvýznamnější pečovatelské chování pokládali pacienti instrumentální dovednosti a výkony sester. Sestry považovaly za své nejdůležitější chování včasné provádění léčebných výkonů a podávání léků, pomáhání při tišení bolesti pacienta a rychlé reagování na volání pacienta. Sestry starší 40 let s délkou klinické praxe nad 20 let hodnotily pečovatelské chování v položkách týkajících se respektování pacientů hůře než mladší sestry. Závěr: Výsledky výzkumu ukázaly, že mezi pacienty a sestrami existují rozdíly ve vnímání pečovatelského chování. Je důležité znát názory pacientů a sester na vnímání pečovatelského chování z důvodu snahy zdravotnických zařízení o soustavné zvyšování kvality péče o pacienta. Zaměření sester na pečovatelské chování, které je preferované pacienty, může vést k vyšší spokojenosti hospitalizovaných jedinců s ošetřovatelskou péčí.

Abstract:

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the perception of nursing behavior by nurses and patients in selected clinical departments of Sanatorium Jablunkov and Podlesí Hospital in Třinec in the context of provided nursing care. The aim is to identify and compare any differences in the perception of nursing behavior between patients and nurses, as well as between the departments of acute care and long-term care departments. Methodology: Data were collected during period April-July 2011 Used Tool was Caring Behaviors Inventory (CBI-24) in 178 patients and 108 nurses. Nurses and patients evaluated the nursing behavior according to a Likert scale Descriptive statistics, t-tests and ANOVA were used for data analyses. And statistical software Stata v. 10 was used for data processing. Statistical tests were evaluated at the 5% signifikance level. Results: The patients rated nursing behavior at lower marks than sisters. Patients and nurses from long-term care facilities evaluated long-term nursing behavior worse than the patients and nurses in the Emergency Department. Instrumental skills and performace of nurses were regarded as the most important nursing behaviour by patients. Nurses considered as the most important behaviour their early implementation of therapeutic interventions and administering medication, helping to relieve pain of the patient and quick response when patient calls. Nurses over 40 with clinical practice over 20 years evaluated nursing behavior in the items relating to patients respekt worse than younger nurses. Conclusion: The results showed that among patients and nurses there are differences in the perception of nursing behavior. It is important to know the views of patients and nurses on the perception of nursing behavior because of the efforts of medical facilities for continuous quality improvement of patient care. Focusing on nursing care behavior, which is preferred in patients may lead to greater satisfaction of hospitalized individuals with nursing care.
