The Book of Reading

Abstract:

Přítomná kniha Kniha čtení jako diplomová práce chce přinést neotřelý pohled na téma knihy jako nositelky obsahových významů a sdělení – autorské a jiné podoby knihy jako umělecké formy – knihy jako artefaktu čtení předkládaného v nemožnosti jejího čtení. Právě „možnosti knihy” otevírají otázku jejího čtení, což vedlo k aktualizaci jejího významu a odvíjí se to od toho, jak se médium knihy pokoušeli mnozí umělci uchopit v „novém umění tvorby knih”; kniha-objekt, konceptuální kniha, kniha-koncept, metaknihy, akce s knihou a umění instalace. Samotný text práce je písemným experimentem, který se nabízí číst ve fragmentech, přičemž části textů jsou spojeny přítomností na protilehlých stranách jako předkládané možnosti (ne)porozumění prostřednictvím klíčových pojmů spojených s knihou. Praktická část v podobě Kartotéky experimentálních publikací, kterou mapuju v textové části, je konceptuální interpretací probíraného teoretického tématu. Tak by vzniklá Kartotéka měla být dalším způsobem nahlédnutí předložených úvah v konceptuálním pojetí imaginárních knihoven. Jako čtenář vnímaného se pokusím nahlédnout na čtení nejen autorských knih a poodhalit jejich existenci v nových uměleckých souvislostech v této předkládané práci, kterou vnímám více v rovině vzájemné interpretační náplni jejich částí, než abych je vymezovala na teoretickou a praktickou.

Abstract:

Diploma theses The Book Of Reading aims to bring a new perspective on the topic of book as an entity of meanings and messages (the author’s book and other forms of books as an art form). The Book Of Reading brings a view on a book as an artifact of reading submitted to the impossibility of it’s own reading/message. The possibilities of a book open up the question of it’s reading – which lead to an actualisation of it’s significance and how the various artists attempted to grasp the medium of a book in „the new art of making books“; book as an object, conceptual book, book as and concept, meta-books, happenings with a book, the art of installation. The textual part of thesis is an experiment dedicated to a way of writing, this artistic approach leads to fragment reading, fragment parts are connected on both sides of pages as presumed possibilities of (mis)understanding through key concepts associated with the book. The practical part of thesis is created by The Card Catalogue of Experimental Publications. It is an artistic conceptual interpretation of the main topic. It’s about insight of reading author’s books as same as undercovering their existence in new artistic contexts. The practical part is the embodiment of providing insight into conceptual notion of imaginary libraries. The Book of Reading and The Card Catalogue create reciprocal interpretative complex which rather fuze in each other than creates a boundaries (which opposes or separates).
