Threat to health condition of inhabitants of economicaly developed countries by refusing preventive vaccination

Abstract:

Světová zdravotnická organizace označila odmítání preventivní vakcinace za jednu z největších zdravotnických hrozeb v roce 2019. Vakcíny, jejich odmítání a nemoci, kterým lze jejich použitím předcházet, jsou hlavním tématem předkládané diplomové práce. Zkoumány jsou druhy vakcín, jejich historie a způsoby užití. Popsáno je, co vede některé osoby k jejich odmítání a jaké nejčastější dezinformace jsou o vakcínách šířeny. Pozornost je také věnována nedávným epidemiím spalniček a černého kašle ve vyspělých zemích, které byly zapříčiněny především odmítáním preventivní vakcinace proti nim. Bylo zjištěno, že nejvyšší poměr nakažených bývá u dětí do stáří jednoho roku, jejichž zdravotní stav také souvisí s kolektivní imunitu osob v jejich okolí. Závěrem jsou uvedeny státy, jejichž vlády se rozhodly penalizovat rodiče odmítající vakcinaci nebo nedovolují zápis neočkovaných dětí do mateřských a základních škol. Tato opatření motivují rodiče k očkování jejich dětí, čímž se významně zvyšuje proočkovanost populace v těchto státech.

Abstract:

World Health Organization recognized vaccine hesitancy as one of the biggest threats to global health in 2019. Vaccines, vaccine hesitancy and vaccine preventable diseases are the main topic of this thesis. This diploma thesis analyses what types of vaccines are currently used, what is the history of vaccines and their application. It is described what are the main reasons why parents choose not to vaccine their children and what are the most common disinformation associated with safety issues of vaccines. Attention is also paid to recent epidemies of measles and whooping cough in developed countries, which were caused mainly by refusing vaccination against them. It was discovered that the largest part of the infected persons were children less than one year old. Their health status depends on collective immunity of the people living around them. There are given examples of states, which decided to penalize the parents refusing vaccination or not allow them to enroll their unimmunized children into pre-school and primary school. These measures motivated citizens to immunize their children and increased vaccination rates of the population living in these states.
