Becoming Human: The Performative Operations of Affective Bodies in the Work of Bruno Dumont with an Emphasis on the Film Hors Satan

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the analysis of the image of the human body and its functioning in the work of director Bruno Dumont (with emphasis on the film Hors Satan) not as a way of representing characters and their actions, but as active elements in creating and directing affective processes. The aim of the work is not to interpret the meanings of emerging affect and affective situations, but to map their basic formal shapes. The result of this is a gradual analysis of the individual steps of a schematically simplified concept of basic bodily manifestations of movement, posture, gesture, face, and specific opportunities that cinematographically stylized expressions of the body offer for the creation of virtual connections and affective meanings.

Abstract:

Bakalárska práca sa zaoberá analýzou obrazu ľudského tela a jeho fungovania v tvorbe režiséra Bruna Dumonta (s dôrazom na film Stranou Satana) nie ako spôsobu reprezentácie charakterov postáv a ich konania, ale ako aktívnych prvkov pôsobiacich pri vytváraní a usmerňovaní afektívnych procesov. Zámerom práce nie je interpretácia významov vznikajúcich afektov a afektívnych situácií, ale mapovanie ich základných formálnych podôb. Výsledkom toho je postupná analýza jednotlivých krokov schematicky zjednodušeného konceptu základných telesných prejavov pohybu, postoja, gesta, tváre a konkrétnych príležitostí, ktoré kinematograficky štylizované výrazy tela ponúkajú pre tvorbu virtuálnych spojení a afektívnych významov.
