Psychological care for emergency medical service workers

Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce bylo zjistit, jakou mají pracovníci zdravotnické záchranné služby zkušenost s psychologickou péčí, která je jim poskytována. Pro lepší pochopení zkušeností respondentů byl také zkoumán širší kontext aspektů psychické náročnosti povolání záchranáře. V teoretické části jsou shrnuty dosavadní teoretické poznatky z této oblasti a popsán systém psychosociální pomoci, který se opírá peer podporu. V rámci empirické části výzkumu byly provedeny rozhovory se třemi záchranáři a dvěma záchranářkami z několika krajů České republiky. Tyto rozhovory byly kódovány a analyzovány pomocí interpretativní fenomenologické analýzy. Ze shrnující mezisubjektové analýzy vyvstala témata, která byla v diskuzi podpoře-na již existující literaturou. Tato témata jsou: Hodnocení psychické náročnosti povolání, Rozšířenost povědomí o možnostech psychické podpory, Jak záchranáři hodnotí nabí-zené služby psychické podpory, Zkušenosti respondentů s psychologickou péčí posky-tovanou zaměstnavatelem a Kolektiv jako důležitý faktor vyrovnávání se se stresem.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis was to find out what experience emergency medical service wor-kers have of the psychological care they receive. The wider context of the psychological aspects of the paramedic profession was also explored to better understand the expe-riences of respondents. The theoretical section summarises the existing theoretical knowledge in this area and describes the peer-supported psychosocial support system. In the empirical part of the research, interviews were conducted with three male and two female para-medics, from several regions of the Czech Republic. These interviews were coded and analysed using interpretative phenomenological analysis. Themes emerged from the summative cross-case analysis that were supported in the discussion by existing literature. These themes are: The assessment of the psy-chological demands of the profession, The prevalence of awareness of psychological support options, How paramedics evaluate the psychological support services offered, Respondents' experiences of psychological care provided by their employer, and The collective as an important factor in coping with stress.
