Tomáš Holý - reconstructing the star image of the strongest child acting persona in Czechoslovak cinema of 1980s

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se soustředí na rekonstrukci kariéry nejvýraznějšího československého dětského herce z období normalizace- Tomáše Holého- prostřednictvím metody star studies v kombinaci s recepčními studii. Práce prozkoumává produkční okolnosti nejaktivnějšího hereckého období sledované dětské hvězdy. Zahrnuje reflexi rolí, analýzu dětské performance a postihuje prvky, které vedly k formování hvězdného obrazu a star vehicle zkoumaného dětského herce.

Abstract:

This thesis is about film career of Tomáš Holý- the most significant and the most expressive child star of Czechoslovakia in the so-called normalization era. Tomáš Holý's on-screen and off-screen success lied in his combination of cuteness, gentleness and playfulness. These attributes were largely present in the so-called star vehicle films, falling under the category of comedy and family films.This thesis describes child performance, kid's cooperation with co-actors and co-actress, star studies methodology infused with reception studies through introduction of period commentaries, criticism, festival awards, repeated representation of films of star vehicle, the construct of hypothetical viewer in the normalization era and phenomenon of re- watching. Containing also production line - castings, scene production, co- operation with acting colleagues and collaboration with directors on set of his films.
