Public spaces of the panel housing estates

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se věnuje popisu a hodnocení lidských aktivit ve veřejných prostorech na sídlišti. Jako studované území bylo vybráno sídliště Lesná, což je jedno z nejkladněji hodnocených sídlišť v Brně i České republice. Lidské aktivity byly studovány skrze koncept afordance, kterému se věnuje většina rešerše této práce. Hlavní zvolenou metodou studia bylo nezúčastněné pozorování a krátké neformální rozhovory. Cílem práce bylo popsat afordance dětí, které se ve veřejném prostoru sídlišť jeví jako nejkreativnější aktéři z obyvatel sídlišť. Dílčím cílem a zároveň motivací bylo prezentovat sídliště jinak než jako monotónní prostor s šedivými krabicemi, kde se nic neděje. Výsledky poukázaly na možné limity veřejných prostorů na sídlišti, například nedostatek přemístitelných objektů, se kterými děti zacházejí nejkreativněji společně s materiály. Zároveň se ukázalo, jak významnou roli hraje Čertova rokle v trávení volného času obyvatel Lesné, zejména dětí.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on description and analysing human activities in public space of the panel housing estates. Housing estate Lesná was chosen as studied territory mainly because of its generally positive reviews as one the best housing estate in Brno or even in the Czech Republic. Human activities were studied with a help of the concept of evidence which mostly mentioned in literature overview. The non-participatory observation were chosen as a main method together with short informal interviews. The main goal of this thesis to describe affordances of the children, which are probably the most creative actors in the public space among inhabitants of Lesná. One of the minor goals was to present housing estate not as boring space with grey boxes where nothing really happens. The results have shown some of the limits that public space is facing at housing estates, for example, lack of movable objects which are used more creatively together with materials. Also, it has shown the important role that Čertova rokle is playing in the way children spend their free time.
