To interview people in social precarity

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis focuses on the research of substandard lexis using sociolinguistic method of analysis. The study is based on verbal material obtained from socially excluded French citizens. The theoretical introduction provides an outline of sociolinguistics and sociology of language as they are employed within the framework of the demanding social fieldwork. Special emphasis is put on the methods of work and research preparation within the community of French homeless. The practical part of the research is based on data obtained from members of a homeless community as well as a comparative sample from a Youth vocational centre for young French that face difficulties at schools. Sociolinguistic analysis takes a look at the content of the questionnaires considering the socio-cultural context, obtained slang expressions are further categorized by lexical analysis using morphological-lexicographical approaches. Analysis of the hapaxes and identification of the specific sociolects of the researched communities conclude the thesis. Marginal or marginalized social groups represent very interesting topics from the sociological and methodological perspective; nevertheless purely from the point of view of slang research they fulfil only common criteria for slang and its differentiation based on age cohorts.

Abstract:

Tématem bakalářské práce je výzkum substandardního lexika sociolingvisticko-metodologickou analýzou, kde se zdrojem materiálu staly projevy sociálně vyloučených Francouzů. Teoretický úvod práce přináší náhled na sociolingvistiku a sociologii jazyka při práci v náročném terénu. Zejména je kladen důraz na metodu práce a přípravu výzkumu v komunitě francouzských bezdomovců. Praktickou část výzkumu tvoří jak korpus z komunity bezdomovců, tak i doplňkový komparační korpus ze střediska pro pracovní zařazení pro mladé Francouze, kteří se potýkají se školním neúspěchem. Sociolingvistická analýza zkoumá obsah dotazníků s ohledem na socio-kulturní kontext; lexikální analýza pak kategorizuje získané slangové výrazy pomocí morfologicko-lexikografických přístupů. Analýza hapaxů a pátrání po specifičnosti sociolektu daných skupin pak uzavírá praktickou část práce. Marginální či marginalizované sociální skupiny jsou sociologicky a metodologicky zajímavým objektem výzkumu, z hlediska slangového však naplňují kritéria běžná pro obecný slang a pro generační diferenciaci slangu.
