Professional identity of the students of psychology

Abstract:

Ve své práci se zaměřuji na otázku prožívání utváření profesní identity u studentů psychologie. V teoretické části popisuji psychologickou profesi, zaměřuji se na specifika studia psychologie na vysoké škole. Dále se zabývám konceptem identity a profesní identity, jejich utvářením s přihlédnutím k situaci studentů psychologie. Prožívání profesní identity je tématem poměrně neprobádaným, zvláště v oblasti psychologie. V práci se pokouším do tohoto prostoru nahlédnout. V empirické části studie je na základě kvalitativní metodologie analyzováno osm polostrukturovaných rozhovorů, provedených se studenty psychologie. Ve studii bylo zjištěno, že transformace, kterou studenti v průběhu vzdělávání prochází, je komplexním procesem, v němž se uplatňují minulé zkušenosti, současné stavy i budoucí aspirace. Může se jednat o proces pro jedince poměrně náročný, v němž hledá optimální poměr mezi sebou samým, tak jak se chápe, a identitou, jež v něm krystalizuje pod vlivem studia. Koncepce studia a vyučující se ukázali být důležitými prvky, jež silně ovlivňují tento proces a jeho prožívání.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is focused on experience of development of professional identity of students of psychology. In the theoretical part of the thesis, the psychological profession is described with respect to specific aspects of studying psychology at the university. Further the concept of identity and professional identity is being described concerning the situation of students of psychology. The experience of professional identity development is not well documented, especially in psychology. This paper tries to bring some of the information about this area. In the empirical part of the thesis, interviews with eight students of psychology are being analyzed based on the qualitative methodology. The results of this analysis show that the development of professional identity is influenced by previous experience, present circumstances and future aspirations. It seems this process can be quite difficult for an individual as he or she tries to find the optimal level between personal identity and professional identity that is being formed. The concept of studies and the tutors appeared to play an important role in this complex process.
