Úvoz street: sense of place

Abstract:

Předkládaná diplomová práce spadá svým zaměřením do oblasti environmentální psychologie. Zabývá se tématem percepce městského prostoru. V teoretické části jsou diskutována specifika života v urbánním prostoru, koncepty kvality prostředí, významu místa a charakteristiky prostorového vnímání. Pro část praktickou byla zpracována případová studie ulice Úvoz v Brně, vybraná na základě jejích specifických vlastností. Hlavním výzkumným cílem bylo zjistit, jak je ulice vnímána jejími obyvateli, co z jejich pohledu utváří význam a obraz tohoto místa. Výzkum byl veden v duchu kvalitativního přístupu, s použitím kresby kognitivních map, techniky go-along a rozhovoru.

Abstract:

The presented diploma thesis falls into the field of environmental psychology. The theoretical section analyses the specifics of life in the urban space, concepts of quality of environment, significance of place and characteristics of spatial perception. In the experimental section, a case study of the Úvoz street in Brno is offered. The choice of this street was made based on its combination of particular and generalisable properties with respect to the primary research goal: the characterisation of the perception of the street by the residents, specifically to infer what creates the sense and image of the place. The research was based on application of quali-tative approaches, such as drawing of cognitive maps, the go-along technique and interview.
