Artificial Intelligence and solutions to COVID-19 pandemic

Abstract:

Cieľom tejto bakalárskej je preskúmať existujúce riešenia využívajúce umelú inteligenciu v kontexte pandémie Covid-19. Teoretická časť sa venovala predstaveniu umelej inteligencie ako aj fenoménu Covid-19. V praktickej časti boli predstavené konkrétne nástroje týkajúce sa napríklad monitorovania, predikcie, identifikácie či vývoja liekov a vakcín, ktoré sa využívajú v praxi. Na dosiahnutie cieľov tejto práce bol použitá databáza Scopus. Použitím konkrétneho filtrovacieho príkazu (predstaveného ďalej v tomto dokumente) bolo získaných 251 zdrojov v primárnom vyhľadávaní. Následne bolo vyradených 164 zdrojov na základe ich názvu, abstraktu a kľúčových slov. 87 dokumentov bolo zanalyzovaných, ktorých výsledkom bolo 40 identifikovaných aplikácií využívajúcich umelú inteligenciu, implementovaných v kontexte pandémie Covid-19. Zo 40 identifikovaných prípadov bolo v tejto práci uvedených 14. Odstránenie zvyšných 26 prípadov bolo založené na nedostupnosti informácií a podobnosti prípadov. Identifikované prípady boli kategorizované podľa ich relevancie v rôznych fázach pandémie: Prevencia, Včasná diagnostika, Čas karantény, Po zotavení a Logistika vakcín. Kategorizácia bola založená na dostupných informáciách o konkrétnom nástroji a jeho použití počas pandémie. Výsledky tejto práce majú potenciál podnikom a iným inštitúciám poskytnúť cenné usmernenia a informácie ako reagovať na novú pandémiu a jej dôsledky. Okrem toho môže tento dokument vytvoriť základ pre ďalší budúci výskum.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis aims to review existing AI solutions to the Covid-19 pandemic. The theoretical part introduced artificial intelligence and the Covid-19 phenomenon. In the practical part, the specific tools referring, for example, to monitoring, predictions, identification, or drug and vaccine development used in practice were presented. To address the goals of this thesis, the Scopus database was used. Applying a particular query (presented later in this document), resulted in 251 sources filtered in the primary search. Subsequently, 164 sources were eliminated based on their title, abstract, and keywords. 87 papers were reviewed, which resulted in 40 identified applications using AI, implemented in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic. Out of the 40 identified cases, 14 were listed in this thesis. The separation of the remaining 26 applications was based on the unavailability of information and the similarity of the included cases. The identified cases were categorized according to their contribution to various pandemic phases: Prevention, Early diagnosis, Quarantine time, After recovery, and Vaccine logistics. The categorization was based on the information available about a particular tool and its usage during the pandemic. The findings of this thesis provide businesses and other institutions with valuable guidelines on how to react to the novel pandemic and its consequences. Moreover, the review can potentially create a basis for future research.
