Sport and politics in Brazil - a case study of the 2014 FIFA World Cup

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá propojením sportu a politiky v Brazílii během konání Mistrovství světa ve fotbale 2014, a to zejména z ekonomického a bezpečnostního hlediska. Cílem práce je zjistit a představit, jaké ekonomické a bezpečnostní dopady zaznamenala Brazílie díky organizaci této sportovní události. Teoretická část práce pojednává o vztahu sportu a politiky na obecnější rovině, kde je zakomponováno několik podkapitol, jako například sportovní diplomacie, hlavní aktéři v rámci vztahu sportu a politiky a poslední podkapitola je věnována pořadatelství sportovních událostí, přičemž je dále rozvinuta do ekonomických a bezpečnostních aspektů. Poté následuje praktická část, která se nejprve zabývá vztahem sportu a politiky v Brazílii, rolí fotbalu v brazilském sportu a pořádáním velkých sportovních akcí v Brazílii s jejich ekonomickými a bezpečnostními aspekty. Poslední část této práce se věnuje pouze Mistrovství světa ve fotbale konané v roce 2014, kde je analyzován nabídkový proces a výběr hostitelské země a poté ekonomické a bezpečnostní aspekty této sportovní události.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the connection between sport and politics in Brazil during the 2014 FIFA World Cup, especially from an economic and security point of view. The aim of this thesis is to find out and present what economic and security impacts Brazil experienced thanks to the organization of this sporting event. The theoretical part discusses the relationship between sport and politics at a more general level, where several subchapters are included, such as sports diplomacy, the main actors in the relationship between sport and politics, and the last subchapter is devoted to organizing sporting events, further developed into economic and security aspects. Then follows the practical part, which first deals with the relationship between sport and politics in Brazil, the role of football in Brazilian sport and the organization of major sporting events in Brazil with their economic and security aspects. The last part of this work is devoted only to the World Cup held in 2014, which analyzes the bidding process and the selection of the host country and then the economic and safety aspects of this sporting event.
